MLB Series To Watch 9/16-19

The baseball season is coming down to the wire, with several close races with 15 games to go. Let’s check out the key matchups this week.

Series Beginning Monday
Tigers @ White Sox-
It’s not a series, but a one-game makeup game that could set the tone for the rest of the season in the AL Central. Doug Fister and Jose Quintana will start in a gigantic divisional game, because this division is only going to send one team to the playoffs.

Orioles @ Mariners- Joe Saunders will have the tall task of facing Felix Hernandez in the finale of this three-game set Baltimore cannot afford to lose.

Red Sox @ Rays- Tampa Bay sends Alex Cobb, Jeremy Hellickson and David Price to the hill as the Rays look to salvage their season with a must-win home series.

Phillies @ Mets- The Phillies are still in this race despite an awful series against the Astros and the Mets have been woeful at home of late. Cliff Lee and R.A. Dickey are Monday’s starters.

Series Beginning Tuesday
Brewers @ Pirates-
Both teams are looking to gain ground on the Cardinals and Dodgers, with Yovani Gallardo and A.J. Burnett starting on Tuesday.

Dodgers @ Nationals- With Los Angeles finally catching up in the playoff race, a series against the Nationals seems daunting. Chris Capuano pitches in the series finale on Thursday, which will be broadcast on MLB Network.

Tigers @ Athletics- Oakland looks to hold off the competition for the AL Wild Card and Detroit looks to take the AL Central title. Brett Anderson and Justin Verlander are Wednesday’s starters.

Rangers @ Angels- Texas suddenly has to hold off Oakland in the AL West race and ESPN will have Derek Holland and Jered Weaver on Wednesday. A playoff spot is suddenly not such a sure thing for the Rangers.

Blue Jays @ Yankees- As New York looks to hold off Baltimore and Tampa Bay in the AL East, the Yankees get Andy Pettitte back from injury on Tuesday.
