MLB Trade Rumors 7/23/12

7 p.m. Eastern
-The Yankees did not risk much in terms of prospects, trading two fringe-ish pitchers for Ichiro in the last year of his contract, but Suzuki’s poor slash line (.261/.288/.353) and adjusting to a new position as a role player will be quite interesting to watch. Ichiro reportedly requested a trade, so that may make his new circumstances more palatable to him. DeWayne Wise was DFA’d to make room and he will likely latch on somewhere.
-Detroit addressed to huge needs in acquiring 2B Omar Infante and SP Anibal Sanchez from Miami, but they had to trade top pitching prospect Jacob Turner along with two other minor leaguers. The key to the deal is Infante, who fills a glaring hole at 2B.
5:15 p.m. Eastern
-We’re still waiting on Ryan Dempster to waive his no-trade clause and accept a trade to the Braves. Bob Nightengale reports that two players would go to the Cubs. It was reported earlier by MLB.com that Randall Delgado could be one of the two.
-Boston has interest in Marlins pitchers Josh Johnson and Anibal Sanchez, according to Gordon Edes.
-The Orioles, A’s, Indians, Tigers and Dodgers are among the teams interested in Chase Headley, according to Jon Heyman.
3:50 p.m. Eastern
-Now there’s evidence to show Ryan Dempster has not been traded to the Braves. Dempster’s foundation tweeted that he has not agreed to a trade to Atlanta. Joe Sheehan reports that the Braves vacated the trade, which is a play on Penn State wins but also applies to Atlanta possibly backing out of a deal.
3:15 p.m. Eastern
-The Cubs and Dodgers are discussing a Matt Garza trade for a package including Zach Lee.
2:25 p.m. Eastern
-The Braves have acquired Ryan Dempster from the Cubs.
2:10 p.m. Eastern
-Mark Bowman reports that the Braves are getting Ryan Dempster and that Randall Delgado could be going to the Cubs.
1:58 p.m. Eastern
-Jon Heyman reports that the Braves are close to getting Ryan Dempster from the Cubs.
1:50 p.m. Eastern
-Danny Knobler confirms the report that the Braves are close to acquiring a starting pitcher.
1:40 p.m. Eastern
-Dave O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that the Braves are closing in on acquiring a starting pitcher.
-Jon Heyman: The Yankees and others have interest in Justin Upton, but Arizona may wait until the offseason. *Washington could try to trade John Lannan over the next week. *There’s plenty of interest in Josh Willingham, but Minnesota wants to keep him. *Kansas City likely makes the most sense for Wandy Rodriguez.
-The Brewers will likely start to sell, Ken Rosenthal says. The Rangers, Angels, Braves and Nationals are among the teams interested in Zack Greinke. Randy Wolf, Francisco Rodriguez and George Kottaras could also be in play.
-The Angels, Rangers, Tigers, Orioles, Nationals and Braves are among the teams interested in Francisco Liriano, says Jon Paul Morosi.
-Toronto would like to trade for another starting pitcher even after getting J.A. Happ last week, Morosi says.
11:15 a.m. Eastern
-The Phillies and Dodgers have discussed a Shane Victorino trade, Jon Morosi reports.
-Possible Indians trade candidates: Derek Lowe, Johnny Damon, Casey Kotchman and even Chris Perez and Shin-Soo Choo. Cleveland would want major league players in return and San Francisco has interest in Perez.
10:45 a.m. Eastern
-Contract extension talks are at “the sensitive stage” between the Phillies and Cole Hamels, Jerry Crasnick reports. They’ve reportedly offered Hamels something similar to the six-year, $127.5 million extension Matt Cain got from the Giants. Hamels hasn’t taken it yet, though he likes Philadelphia and may return there in free agency after he gets traded, if he gets dealt of course. The Dodgers and Cardinals could be destinations if he reaches free agency.
-San Diego has asked Pittsburgh for a substantial package of prospects in exchange for Chase Headley, Buster Olney reports.
9:10 a.m. Eastern
-Ken Rosenthal: Philadelphia will increase its efforts to re-sign Cole Hamels this week. They’ll probably trade him if they can’t re-sign him. The Yankees, Dodgers, Pirates, Reds and others have interest in Shane Victorino. *The Giants are looking for a “Cody Ross-like” hitter in a trade. *Kameron Loe and Manny Parra are two Brewers relievers available.
8:55 a.m. Eastern

-The Braves continue to talk with the Cubs about Ryan Dempster, says Buster Olney, and Ken Rosenthal reports that Atlanta could be the new favorites with the Dodgers “cooling” on the veteran righty. Washington and St. Louis also have interest.
-After being swept by Cincinnati over the weekend the Brewers are sure sellers, Danny Knobler reports. Zack Greinke is the big name, obviously, but Milwaukee could also move Francisco Rodriguez, Aramis Ramirez, Corey Hart and Randy Wolf. *The Phillies are more complicated, with the team looking to re-sign Cole Hamels along with taking offers for Shane Victorino, Jimmy Rollins and others.
-Pittsburgh sees Shane Victorino as their ideal trade target, but not until Philadelphia lowers its asking price.
-Texas will consider trading any prospect but Jurickson Profar to ensure another World Series run, Jim Bowden says.
-The Mets will not be sellers, says Adam Rubin, but may not necessarily be buyers either.
