Knicks Fans React To Jeremy Lin’s Departure To Houston

After the success on and off the court the New York Knicks had with Jeremy Lin, the team let him sign a three-year contract worth $24.8 million contract with a $14.8 million poison pill in the third season. New York had every opportunity to match, but he only had 25 career starts under his belt and the team would pay a lot more money with the luxury tax had they kept Lin. On the other hand, he got the Knicks many new fans and a ton of revenue for the team. Let’s see what the fans said via Facebook.

Knicks Fan #1- “Lin’s not worth 25 mil guaranteed.”
Knicks Fan #2- “Should’ve given Lin his money!”
Knicks Fan #3- “Letting Lin walk and doing a S&T for Felton frees up money to sign JR Smith long term next offseason. Just saying.”
Knicks Fan #2- “What’s Lin’s ceiling? Oh right, we still don’t know!”
Knicks Fan #3- “They can trade Felton if necessary at the deadline since he’d be a solid pick up for a team needing a PG. Hopefully Knicks will use the vet minimum to fill another need since they’d still have that even after Felton.”
Knicks Fan #4- “This is silly. Lin brings in a lot more money than Ray Felton. Felton was out of shape and stunk last year.”
Knicks Fan #5- “Felton is a better fit and comes cheaper. Lin can get in the lane and get to the line, but the Knicks need a point guard who can distribute. Notice how the Knicks faltered when both he and Carmelo were in the lineup together. Their styles dont go well together. Even with all the hype, I’m still not convinced Lin is for real. I think he caught people by surprise early on but when teams figured out his style, he struggled to adjust. I don’t see him living up to that contract.”
Knicks Fan #2-  ”What happened to ‘they’ll match anything up to a billion’? It’s the wrong move. I’m stunned/furious.
Knicks Fan #6- “Whaaaat? Noooo!”
Knicks Fan #7- “In every way shape and form including from a business standpoint this is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of…The reason the Rockets are paying him so much is because they realize how big of a money maker it is to have the top Chinese player on their team since they experienced it with Yao… Do you realize in 26 games played Lin was one of the top selling jerseys?! Do you realize how marketable he is and that every game was sold out while he was playing?! The Knicks haven’t had that since 2000!! Specifically having Chinese players on the team is a huge money maker bc they’re nuts about their ‘idols’ and they happen to be the most populated country. Why do u think Yao Ming was voted to the All-Star team in a year that he was out for the season?!
Knicks Fan #8- “You don’t think hype had to do with the Linsanity and crazy market last year? The second Lin struggled against chalmers in ONE game, people were questioning Lin. I think it’s a small sample size to give a guy such a huge contract ($14 million in year 3!). I’m not saying Lin cant do it or wont, but its a huge gamble and if he doesnt recover from this knee injury or didnt gel with Melo, Knicks would have a bigger circus then the Jets for the next 3 years. I like the move, let Landry Fields and Lin get $50 million worth of contracts for three years. Also as a Knicks/Rangers ticket seller last year, Lin definitely saved my “season” but the marketability for the Knicks is wins. The Rangers’ average price was around $80-100 for 400′s which is double face (my 300′s Knicks barely got to 90) the Rangers don’t have Lin but were in first place and got the demand. Dolan knows his business so I can’t imagine if Lin could pay off his contract, that Knicks wouldnt just match and take the cap hit. He’s not China homegrown like Ming so it’s tough to compare.”
Knicks Fan #9- “Probably the single dumbest Knicks move of my fandom.”
