MLB Trade Rumors 7/17/12

2:35 p.m. Eastern
-The Cubs are trying to trade Ryan Dempster by the end of the week, Jayson Stark says and others confirm.
-Washington has interest in Dempster, Zack Greinke and Francisco Liriano, Ken Rosenthal reports. They also have interest in Colorado’s Ramon Hernandez.
-Kansas City has interest in Matt Garza, Danny Knobler reports. The Royals probably won’t trade Jonathan Broxton.
1:30 p.m. Eastern
-St. Louis has interest in Wandy Rodriguez and Jason Vargas, according to Ken Rosenthal. Jason Churchill says not to expect a large return for Vargas.
-Tim Brown: Cincinnati could look for a veteran 1B like Ty Wigginton, Carlos Lee or Mark Kotsay. *The Yankees could go after an OF like Shane Victorino, David DeJesus or even Josh Willingham.
-Jon Paul Morosi: Houston may be willing to eat some of Rodriguez’s contract, which would put Detroit in play. They want a lefty starter. *Atlanta is looking for a bullpen upgrade. *

-Miami could discuss everyone on their roster if they decide to sell, Buster Olney reports (via MLB Trade Rumors).
11 a.m. Eastern
-Ken Rosenthal: The Rays are open to trading any of its righty pitchers, including James Shields, Jeremy Hellickson, Wade Davis, Alex Cobb and Chris Archer. *Oakland will probably not trade Bartolo Colon and they could even re-sign him after the season. *Peter Bourjos and Garrett Richards could be part of a package for Zack Greinke or Cole Hamels. The Angels also want a lefty reliever and could ask for Manny Parra back from the Brewers along with Greinke. *The Dodgers, Tigers, Braves and Red Sox all have interest in Ryan Dempster and Boston also likes Matt Garza. *Toronto, Pittsburgh and Texas are among the teams interested in Justin Upton. *Texas may trade Yorvit Torrealba and look for a better backup catcher. *The Dodgers could go after Randy Wolf.
8:55 a.m. Eastern

-Jon Paul Morosi: Texas is interested in Cole Hamels, but they want to see how much they’re going to get from Neftali Feliz and Alexi Ogando going forward. The Rangers are a better fit for Hamels than the Angels. *Arizona could now be in sell mode and Justin Upton is the big name, and he’ll have a lot of interest because of his large contract. Will the D-Backs get the right offer. *Oakland could be buyers at the trade deadline for another starting pitcher or a shortstop.
-Jon Paul Morosi: Zack Greinke’s postponed start and his high July ERA is doing damage to his trade value. It could lead him to stay with Milwaukee long term. *Francisco Liriano is the new hot name and he could fetch a package similar to Cole Hamels.
-The Dodgers, Red Sox and Tigers are all in play for Ryan Dempster, Morosi says. Morosi also says that Detroit is interested in Stephen Drew and Ryan Roberts.
-Atlanta is looking for a top-of-the-rotation starter, Jayson Stark reports.
-Six teams are interested in San Diego’s Chase Headley and Seattle could be one of them.
-Kansas City may release Jonathan Sanchez today.
