8:40 p.m. Eastern
-Boston has not contacted Carlos Beltran but they have contacted Grady Sizemore, says Michael Silverman. Both “are longshots” until David Ortiz is signed.
-Houston will listen to all offers on Wandy Rodriguez, says Jim Bowden.
-Clint Barmes, Mark Ellis and Aaron Hill are all targets of the Dodgers, says Ken Rosenthal. Hill is also negotiating with the Diamondbacks. The Dodgers are also interested in Hiroki Kuroda and are looking for a backup catcher.
-Pat Burrell’s playing days are over.
-A look at who could be cut from San Diego’s 40-man roster.
5:30 p.m. Eastern
-The Phillies really like Jonathan Papelbon if their deal with Ryan Madsen falls through, says Jon Heyman. Heyman also hears that Mike Matheny has a real chance to win the Cardinals managerial job. St. Louis is done interviewing candidates and will decide next week.
-Jonathan Broxton is looking for an incentive laden one year contract with the chance to close, according to Andy Martino. Brad Lidge and Joe Nathan are in the same boat.
-Colorado could be interested in Cody Ross, according to Troy Renck.
3:50 p.m. Eastern
-The White Sox are taking offers on John Danks and Gavin Floyd and will trade either for the right offer, says Ken Rosenthal. The Yankees or Red Sox could deal for Danks and then give him a contract extension. Chicago is most likely to trade Carlos Quentin, though Jon Heyman expects Quentin to stay put this offseason. Heyman also says that the Rangers would also have interest in Danks.
-Danny Knobler would not be surprised if the Phillies ended up with Jonathan Papelbon or Heath Bell as its closer rather than Ryan Madsen.
2:50 p.m. Eastern
-There is sentiment in the Cubs front office, according to Jim Bowden, that the team would be best off with Mike Maddux and his brother Greg (you know, the all-time great pitcher) as pitching coach.
-The Mets could be making one of its best moves in years by ditching the black in their jerseys.
2:15 p.m. Eastern
-Danny Knobler: Yu Darvish may not be posted until next winter, sources say. *Nationals brass insist that they’re happy with Adam LaRoche and Michael Morse at 1B, but Knobler isn’t ruling them out on Albert Pujols or Prince Fielder. *A source expects Yoenis Cespedes to get at least six years and $30.25 million, which was Aroldis Chapman’s contract.
-There have been multiple offers for Ryan Doumit, says Jerry Crasnick. Doumit could catch and play corner OF. He’s looking for a one-year deal. *More from Crasnick includes Mitch Talbot getting offers from several teams, including one from Japan.*The Mets took OF Jason Pridie off their roster, but he’s expected to clear waivers on Friday.
-Colorado could look at Orlando Hudson or Clint Barmes for 2B, according to Thomas Harding, but Troy Renck says neither option makes sense.
1:45 p.m. Eastern
-Jayson Stark: He asked execs what contract Albert Pujols would get, and it averaged to 8.5 years at $28 million per season. For Prince Fielder, seven years at $25 million per season. Pujols will most likely stay with the Cardinals, but the Cubs, Marlins and Rangers are expected to make a push. For Fielder, possible suitors include Texas, Baltimore, Seattle, Washington, Florida and the Cubs. *Would Manny Ramirez be interested in playing in Japan? He recently had a tryout for the Softbank Hawks, but it didn’t go well. *If a new labor deal gets done, Houston would move to the AL and there would be interleague series every day, perhaps doubling the amount of interleague games to 30. *Washington will focus on a starting pitcher and a leadoff type CF. Execs say the Nationals would prefer Mark Buehrle over Roy Oswalt and CJ Wilson and are not expected to go after Yu Darvish. *Florida’s top free agent priority is clearly Jose Reyes. *In addition to Michael Cuddyer, Philadelphia is also interested in Grady Sizemore. More than six teams are interested in Jimmy Rollins. *Atlanta would definitely move Martin Prado and may move Jair Jurrjens even after a deal with Kansas City fell through. *Speaking of Kansas City, the Royals would go after Chris Capuano if they can’t keep Bruce Chen. *Boston’s first order of business is to re-sign David Ortiz rather than go after Cuddyer or Carlos Beltran.
-The Mets won’t engage in a bidding war for Jose Reyes, according to Buster Olney. He also thinks the Mets should trade David Wright this winter.
-A few fits for Japanese CF Nori Aoki, according to Jerry Crasnick: Indians, A’s, Mets, Nationals and perhaps the Giants.
-Other teams besides Colorado is going after Martin Prado, Jon Heyman says. He also says Josh Willingham is looking for a three-year contract.

11:53 a.m. Eastern
-Pittsburgh has announced it has signed C Rod Barajas to a one-year deal with a 2013 club option. The 36-year-old smacked 16 homers in 336 plate appearances for the Dodgers last year, though only batted .230. A solid backup/platoon type.
-Philadelphia has signed lefty Raul Valdes to a minor league contract, says JP Morosi.
-Florida is meeting with Yoenis Cespedes today, says Jon Heyman.
11:20 a.m. Eastern

10:45 a.m. Eastern

9:05 a.m. Eastern

Four men stormed into Ramos’ mother’s house while his family was eating dinner, forced him into a vehicle and sped off, according to reports. Venezuelan police are investigating and the family has not yet been contacted by the kidnappers as of late Wednesday, according to reports. My thoughts and prayers are with the Ramos family.

The team has interest in CJ Wilson, and Pujols and Fielder are not out of the question though are not the team’s top priority. Kendrys Morales will likely be tendered a contract despite his injuries, and there is no interest in Aramis Ramirez.
