-Jon Heyman says the Mets are trying to wait it out on Bengie Molina knowing that other teams in need of a catcher like Kansas City and Texas don’t have as much money.

-An executive told ESPN’s Peter Gammons to watch out for the Mariners on John Lackey and Jason Bay.
-RaysIndex quotes John Perrotto who says that the Pirates are focusing in on trading for SS Reid Brignac to pair with Ronny Cedeno and are willing to part with Zach Duke and Matt Capps, though Tampa doesn’t like Capps and they would obviously need more than Brignac to get Duke.

-The Mets have interest in Washington’s Josh Willingham, according to MLB.com’s Bill Ladson.
10:40 a.m. Eastern
-Ken Rosenthal says that Matt Lindstrom is sure to be traded within the next few days and a deal is close for him to be dealt from Florida. At least six teams are interested in the former Florida closer.
10:35 a.m. Eastern
-The Yankees may get involved in John Lackey is the price drops, but Randy Wolf and Joel Piniero could also be options, according to the New York Post. The Yankees want Johnny Damon back on a two year deal worth $20 million. Mike Cameron and Randy Winn are other options. The Yankees really like Rafael Soriano. Wolf, Piniero and Marquis are on the Mets’ radar with Bengie Molina and teams have shown interest in Angel Pagan. Executives may believe that an Adrian Gonzalez trade could come before a Roy Halladay trade. The feeling is that the Red Sox will end up signing Matt Holliday or resign Jason Bay. After the Mariners signed Chone Figgins, Seattle and Baltimore are two teams that could shell out big contracts. Expect a lot of talk about “Luis Castillo, Derek Lowe, Javier Vazquez, Dan Uggla, Milton Bradley, Aaron Harang, Mike Lowell, Pat Burrell, Edwin Jackson, Gil Meche, David DeJesus and Kevin Millwood.”
-The Giants want Dan Uggla, but the Marlins asked for top pitching prospect Madison Bumgarner, says the San Jose Mercury News. Other players of interest include Nick Johnson, Jermaine Dye, Adrian Beltre, Johnny Damon, Xavier Nady and Adam LaRoche. Catching targets include Miguel Olivo, Jason Kendall, Ivan Rodriguez, Brad Ausmus, Yorvit Torrealba and Rod Barajas. They’re hoping Brad Penny reconsiders their one year offer. Another Mercury News article says that Jack Cust will likely not be back with the A’s next season and could be traded to the Mets or Mariners before being nontendered next Saturday.
-Nothing is close on a Milton Bradley-Pat Burrell swap with the Rays and Cubs, and a Luis Castillo three-team deal isn’t happening, says Jon Heyman. The Mets will probably offer Bengie Molina two years and Rafael Soriano is considering arbitration.
-The Chicago Sun-Times says the Cubs are interested in Mike Cameron and Lou Piniella may want to manage beyond 2010. Another Sun-Times article says the White Sox are not going after Coco Crisp or Jim Thome and the team won’t trade Bobby Jenks unless it’s in a deal for Carl Crawford or BJ Upton.
-It will take longer for things to develop for the Mets this offseason, says the Newark Star-Ledger. They really want to get rid of Luis Castillo so they can sign Orlando Hudson, and a splashier acquisition will have to wait. Bengie Molina, Rod Barajas, Randy Wolf, Jason Marquis and Joel Piniero are on the wish list.
