The NBA Week In Preview

After the league’s first week, there are three teams still undefeated. Boston has looked excellent early on as expected, fielding a deep veteran laden team with new additions Rasheed Wallace and a surprisingly solid Shelden Williams to go with the core including Rajon Rondo, who got a huge contract extension this week. Denver is also unbeaten, which is far from a surprise. But what most people did not see coming was the inspired play of Carmelo Anthony who’s averaging 35 and 7 over the team’s first four games. And after missing the playoffs entirely last season and trading Shaquille O’Neal, the Phoenix Suns are 4-0 after handing the Heat their first defeat Tuesday night in Miami. They’re looking good with Steve Nash, Amare Stoudamire, Jason Richardson and Grant Hill, but nobody expected starting C Channing Frye to come home and average 17 and five over the first four games including 22 and 25 point performances in wins over Minnesota and Golden State. Among the teams that have not looked strong thus far, a rebuilding New Jersey team that has suffered an early injury to Devin Harris is off to a slow start. At least they have Chris Christie and not Doug Christie as governor. New Orlenas and Utah are off to bad starts, which are making people wonder about the future of Chris Paul and the Jazz’s decision to keep both Carlos Boozer and Paul Millsap. Now let’s see what we have to look forward to over the next week.

Week In Preview
Wednesday- It’ll be an ESPN doubleheader led by a Southeast showdown featuring Gilbert Arenas and Washington against Dwayne Wade and Miami at 7 followed by the Mavericks, who got 29 points in the fourth quarter from Dirk Nowitzki in a win over Utah last night, facing New Orleans at 9:30. Other games of note feature undefeated Phoenix playing the second game of a back-to-back at Orlando, Detroit and Toronto on TSN2, Kevin Garnett going to Minnesota and the Lakers taking on the Rockets as Ron Artest returns to Houston to take on Trevor Ariza,
Thursday- The TNT twinbill is the only action of the evening as Central powers collide in Cleveland when the Bulls pay a visit at 8, followed by a well-rested Spurs team going to Utah to play Deron Williams and the Jazz.
Friday- 13 games are on the schedule highlighted by an ESPN doubleheader led by LeBron James and the Cavs going to The King’s potential future home as they take on the Knicks at 8 eastern. 2010 will be all over ESPN on Friday. A tired Spurs team goes to Portland in the second game on ESPN as Tim Duncan’s crew takes on Brandon Roy and the Blazers. Pistons-Magic, Suns-Celtics, Nuggets-Heat and Thunder-Rockets are among the other games of note on Friday night.
Saturday- The feature game on NBATV has Carmelo Anthony and the Nuggets go down to the ATL to take on Joe Johnson and the Hawks at 7 eastern. Boston will be at New Jersey and Toronto plays at Dallas in other notable games.
Sunday- NBATV features a NoCal battle of hyped rookies as Steph Curry and Golden State go to Sacramento to face Tyreke Evans and the Kings at 9 eastern. Sixers-Pistons, Suns-Wizards, Magic-Thunder, Wolves-Blazers and Hornets-Lakers are the other games.
Monday- Amare Stoudamire and the Suns will head to the City of Brotherly Love to face Elton Brand and the Sixers on NBATV at 7 eastern. Utah is in New York and Toronto is in San Antonio in other notable games.
Tuesday- Washington will play Miami for the second time in a week, Denver goes to Chicago and Dallas hosts Houston in a Texas tussle.
