Arizona Fall League Update

Every year, the best prospects from all 30 teams hone their skills against the best in the Arizona Fall League.

Opening Day (Tuesday) Results
Mesa 10-Phoenix 6- Cubs 19-year-old SS prospect Starlin Castro went 3-5 with three RBI’s in the win for Mesa and 19-year-old Red Sox SS prospect Jose Iglesias drove in two. 23-year-old AA Twins prospect Rene Tosoni homered in the win. For Phoenix, Washington advanced-A SS prospect Danny Espinosa (22) drove in three and Orioles 1B prospect Brandon Snyder homered and drove in two. Snyder could be the everyday 1B for the O’s next season. Playing LF in the Toronto organization, former pitcher Adam Loewen drew three walks in the game. Red Sox pitcher Rando Bierd got the win as they try and prepare him for a possible bullpen job next year and AAA Boston prospect Dustin Richardson fared well in relief.
Surprise 17-Peoria Javelinas 4- 22-year-old Mets prospect Ike Davis tore up this game, going 4-6 with a homer and six RBI’s in the big win. Yankees advanced-A 3B prospect Brandon Laird went 4-6 with three RBI’s, and Mets OF AA prospect Lucas Duda and Yankees OF Colin Curtis each went 2-5 with two RBI’s. For Peoria, Tigers top OF prospect Casper Wells was the only Javelina with two hits and drove in a run. Ian Kennedy allowed a run over four innings for the win and Cardinals reliever Mike Parisi pitched a clean inning for Surprise.
Scottsdale 8-Peoria Saguaros 4- Top Phillies OF prospect Domonic Brown homered and drove in two in the win, with Giants top SS Brandon Crawford and AA Pirates SS Brian Friday each driving in two. For Peoria, Braves top prospect Jason Heyward and Reds OF prospect Chris Heisey were the only Saguaros with multiple hits. Giants starters Joe Martinez allowed an unearned run in three innings for the win, and other good performers include Houston’s 23-year-old Taiwanese prospect Chia-Jen Lo and Houston reliever Daniel Meszaros.
