Mets Fire Bernazard

After an especially turbulent week off the field for embattled Mets executive Tony Bernazard, where he cursed out a Diamondbacks scout for sitting in his row and challenged AA players to a fight, New York ownership decided that they had enough of Bernazard and pulled the plug on him, despite the Wilpons’ respect for him. There was a wide belief that Bernazard put a lot of heat on the Mets’ brass to fire Willie Randolph last season and would eventually become the GM after Omar Minaya. SI.com’s Jon Heyman commented that this firing reflected bad on the team, given the NY Daily News‘ constant pressure on the club over the last week. Either way it’s a step forward for the Mets in a season chock full of steps backwards.
